They mainly reside in the mountainous areas in North Viet Nam. They live on cultivating wet rice. The Giay possess a relatively special culture, funerals and marriage. As a polytheic community, the Giay maintain a lot of customs and rituals: to celebrate a new house, to welcome the Sun and the Moon, to praise the waterfall, etc. For them, most of natural phenomena are explained through legends and stories.
