Gani Odutokun (1946–1995) was a seminal Nigerian painter and educator. A cornerstone of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) art department in Zaria, he revolutionized contemporary African art by discarding the easel and letting liquefied paint bleed freely onto the canvas to merge elements of "happenstance and design".
