This book is an attempt to assess the record and analyse the Bengali women's role in the period (1865-1943) which marked the emergence of Bengali women associations in the history of nineteenth century colonial Bengal, witnessed begining of womens' participation in the 'public space' through associationsthis study begins with the reform movement through associations. This study begins with the reform movement which was started by some enlightened personalities (men) to educate women and demonstrates how education changed their lives and enabled them to take part in public life.
