This publication is a collection of papers on the historical, social, economic, cultural and political aspect of Islam in Kenya society presented by both Muslim and non-Muslim scholar drawn from the academia, the public service and the private sector during the national seminar on Islam in Kenya held at Mombasa, April 1994. The seminar was convened to provide basic data about Muslims in the country, Attempts were made to cover as many aspect of Kenya Islam as possible, so that politicians, administrators, policy makers and ordinary Kenyans were furnished with some information about Islam and Muslim as an integral part of Kenyan multi-ethnic, multi-cultural society. The paper in this collection are divided into six broad categories, namely: the Muslim Community; perception of Muslims in wider society; the intellectual and cultural traditions; economic development social changes, and education.
