Thereafter he joined the UKM academic staff training program to pursue internal medicine in Edinburgh before subspecialising in clinical oncology in Glasgow. He played an instrumental role in the initial establishment of the UKM hospital. He was also the founding dean of the IIUM medical school and served the university till his retirement at 66 in 2015.
