Dr. Bakari being a mother-tongue speaker of one of the Swahili dialects is a well-known expert of Swahili among the younger generation of African scholars. In this book, he.. analyses the morphonological structures of seven Swahili dialects spoken in Kenya, using the new model of “Natural Generative Grammar.” Each dialect is treated in a separate chapter. The abstract rules of morphonological processes are demonstrated and attested by many practical examples. In the last chapter, Dr Bakari reflects critically the results of his analyses in the light of the grammatical model applied and develops new perspectives for future historical research in the area of Swahili dialects.
