The Japanese Community in Cebu, 1900-1945 by Dr. Jose Eleazar R. Bersales and Dr. Taihei Okada attempts to trace the history of a small but commercially significant expatriate community in Cebu during the American colonial period and determine its fate during the subsequent Japanese Occupation and eventual U.S. liberation of the island in 1945. With the aid of published as well as unpublished materials found in the Philippines and Japan, the authors provide details that have hitherto remained unknown or have been simply forgotten. The authors hope that with this slim volume, the doors shall have been opened, as it were, for more research into this once-vibrant community that got swept into the vagaries of war and its aftermath.
