The major concern of this book is to focus on the contrasting situation represented by the agricultural practices of the smallholder farming population on the one hand and industrial agriculture practised by giant corporate houses on the other, considering the former’s ability to meet the growing requirement of food by the global population. The contest between these two widely different sectors favours smallholder farmers as they derive impetus from a greater reliance on the role of research and development in support of a process of greater intensification. They overcome the hurdles of competition from industrial farming by concentrating on mitigating the effects of climate change, through a sustainable process.
