This volume of Catalogue contains the curatorial data of 515 terracotta objects from the collection of Bangladesh National Museum. These objects were salvaged from different corners of this country. It is the first publication of its kind in this deltaic land of Bangladesh. They include pots, sculptural objects, architectonic art pieces, plaques developed as building material and even household objects. They were manufactured in different phases of history by certain artisan communities, kumars or kumbhakars by title. These communities, however, are now already on the verge of extinction, therefore Karithe objects arrayed in this tome are gradually disappearing. As a result, they can presently be listed as endangered cultural products belonging to a unique representations of a people. In turn, they help to recognize the multi-faceted technological diffusion, distribution of settlement pattern, taste of different classes and castes as well as the economical conditions through which the nation reached a stage of civilization. Each object has been described according to a methodology that seeks to define its typology and character and is presented along with a photograph supported by an official object ID and the record sheet in order to increase the interest of the archaeologists, historian, folklorists and museum personnel alike. Thus, we hope, this catalogue would be of much use to the professionals, researchers and the general readers as well.
