This intellectually stimulating book investigates the role of Blue Economy Diplomacy (BED) for the pursuit of Bangladesh's Blue Economy (BE) objectives in marine fisheries and maritime trade sectors. It argues that the future of Bangladesh largely depends on the sustainable use of its marine resources. However, Bangladesh has economic, manpower and technological limitations to exploit its BE potential under marine fisheries and maritime trade sectors. In addition, Bangladesh cannot address challenges to marine fisheries and maritime trade sector on its own. This book finds that Bangladesh requires economic, security and technological cooperation from other states and non-state actors for the sustainable utilization of BE under marine fisheries and maritime trade sector. In this scenario, BED is essential for Bangladesh to forge cooperation and collaboration in order to explore and exploit the untapped potentials under marine fisheries and maritime trade sector. The book finds that there is possibility of inter and intra-state conflicts among fishers. Thus, BED would be useful in mitigating and resolving conflicts, arising out from increasing scarcity of marine resources, i.e. fisheries. The book argues that regional cooperation is the key in order to explore and harness Bangladesh's BE potential. In this case, the regional mechanism i.e. BIMSTEC would be imperative in realizing BE objectives. The book also recommends for the establishment of a BIMSTEC Maritime University to expand maritime education and research in the Bay of Bengal region which is essential to explore and harness the BE potentials.
