"Economic Crosscurrents" is a collection of short essays published in Op-Ed section of The Daily Star newspaper during 2018-2021. The Daily Star is Bangladesh's largest circulating English-language newspaper, and the author has offered its readers an analytical insight into the national and international events. The articles are organized in three groups: International Economics, Economic Policy, and Challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The essays cover a range of topic including Brexit negotiations, international trade issues, monetary policy, inflation, and environmental policy. Dr. Shibli is a strong advocate for income equality, social issues, labor rights, and analytical rigor in policy discussions. In "Is Poverty a Dirt Word", he offers a critique of conventional wisdom; in "Should vaccines be considered public goods?" he argues for policy options to fight the pandemic. In a series of articles on the economic recovery from the pandemic, he identifies some critical issues in public policy.
