Within these covers are 100 ghazals with themes of teenage love, Malaysia, family, spirituality, celebration, and food. Each couplet of a ghazal is meant to stand alone, encapsulating the various disjointed events recounted in a ghazal, like a quick succession of fragmented images. While many of the ghazals in this collection are melancholic, others are more joyful in tone, recounting the author’s childhood in a small Catholic Malayalee community describing the sweets and curries that were savoured, the clothes that were worn, and the celebrations that were held.
