Sociology is the scientific study of the nature and development of society and social behavior, while sociology of religion studies the positive and negative impacts of religion on the society. Sociology of religion studies the interactions between religion and other social institutions of society. For the sociologist of religion, religion is not just a social phenomenon like politics, morality, law, economics or culture, it actually performs some important functions within the social system.
