This book, "TOKYO EAST WAVES," features three series by Kimura Ihei Photography Award-winning artist Mitsugu Onishi (1952-), including the 22nd Taiyo Award-winning work and the 18th Kimura Ihei Photography Award-winning work, which were taken in eastern Tokyo and its suburbs in the late 1980s and early 1990s. All were shot on color positive and negative film using a medium-format camera, the Makina 670. These are important works produced in parallel with the monochrome series "WONDERLAND," and are published for the first time in a photo book. The lives and behavior of ordinary people during the strange era of the bubble economy are meticulously recorded by Onishi, who was also a member of that era. The book includes a text entitled "One-Eyed Dog Makina 670" by photographer and writer Oyama Ken, who won the Photographic Society of Japan Academic Award in 2023, and a text entitled "Mitsugu Onishi's Heartbreaking Diary" by Tsuchida Hiromi, a contemporary photographer and Domon Ken Award-winning writer. "In short, TOKYO EAST WAVES is a modern Musashino. This work is Musashino updated as a visual version for the first time in 130 years." (Oyama Ken) "It documents the rapid transformation of the situation in the former industrial and residential areas of Urayasu, Chiba, from the "ke" (the atmosphere) to Disneyland and amusement parks as "hare" (the atmosphere)." (Tsuchida Hiromi)
