"Me" is the name of the Hue people to refer to the person who gave birth to their parents (maternal mother, paternal mother) equivalent to maternal and paternal grandparents in other regions. Over time, "Me" or "Mu" becomes a common word to refer to the Nguyen aristocracy, the royalties residing in the inner, suburbs or in the palaces around Hue. In Hue, there are many anecdotes about the Nguyen aristocracy, which the people here call "the story of the Me". Those are funny and witty stories but also full of tragedy; reflecting the tug-of-war between status and reality in the contemporary aristocracy.
