Throughout history, waqf institutions have had a brilliant track record both in the context of Indonesia and in the Islamic world in general. In its golden era, waqf played an important and strategic role in the socio-economic development of Islamic society. The revitalization of the waqf sector also gained new momentum after the World Bank identified waqf as one of the institutions that may be able to realize their twin goals to end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity in every country sustainably.
